N.B. Virelai, Estampie, Saltarello, & Tarantela were all entertainments intended primarily for the artisan and merchant social-classes; so that to illustrate these musics with knights accoutred for combat (viz., armored on horseback), as most uploaders of these videos have done, is impertinent and inappropriate. Knights and their dames had rather different entertainments, namely formal caerimonials performed in tapestried halls of castles, accompanied by the flourishes of trumpets, with much display of armorial bearings.
